Background

Lera was nine when she was diagnosed with a neuropathy that included the slow degeneration of muscles and the loss of sensation in the limbs and extremities.Born three years after the Chernobyl disaster in the irradiated city Gomel, Belarus, she grew up around children already suffering from birth defects. Her diagnosis was the realization of her fears, so when her parents encouraged her and her younger siblings to be physically active, she pushed herself even harder, determined to keep her body in peak condition to weather the neuropathy. She could not be sick if she stayed healthy, her young mind reasoned.

All three Melnikova children grew up playing sports, with Lera excelling at those requiring agility and finesse but there was always the knowledge that the neuropathy would worsen unless someone found a more permanent solution. She decided that someone was herself.

Lera moved to Novosibirsky State University and graduated with a PhD. in Microbiology and Immunology. She remained at NSU in the Biotechnology and Virology Laboratory, her research uncovering treatments for a variety of pathogens and neuropathies including her own through drugs and self-dissolving nanites. While she hadn't found a cure, she had found remission.

Lera might have stayed in Academia had she not received a visit from the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB).. Russian Spetsnaz operators and special agents faced the ever-growing danger of exposure to hazardous materials including organophosphorus agents like VX gas. For the first me in her life, Lera began thinking outside of her own concerns. Her research ad saved the lives of perfect strangers, and now they were reaching out to her, sending grateful postcards and photos and letters. She could have a greater impact still. Lera jumped at the chance to work with Spetsnaz volunteers in a variety of conditions as she adapted the nanobots to their high-performance physiologies. Quickly, she came to enjoy the sense of competition, camaraderie, and the mental toughness of the Russian Special Forces members. She joined the Army with an eye on becoming a Red Beret herself, on the front lines of saving lives as a Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear (CBRN) specialist.

Serving in the Russian Army, Lera rapidly proved herself physically and mentally tough enough to try out for the Spetsnaz. It was a brutal course, culminating in Close quarter Battle (CQB) knife training with Kapkan. A misstep and a flourish from Kapkan, however, opened her face from brow to cheek, but Lera went for a series of bone breaking punches to his nose and ribs before the pain overwhelmed her. They spent the night in the med tent, neither of them speaking, but enjoying a new, unspoken respect between them. From that day forward, she'd earned her moniker, Finka or "Knife". Lera became the Spetsnz CBRN Specialist, joining the Vympel UNit under the FSB and using her nanobots to help her unit survice hot zones; she was one of the only people capable of tailoring the nanobots to specific operators.

Her work in restructuring Russian battlefield protocols in the handling and neutralization of dangerous payloads earned her notice, and she became the go-to expert when it came to joint exercises with the other CTUs. Six invited Lera to help Rainbow Six put together a CRBN unit of their own with Olivier "Lion" Flament as her first pick.

Profile

Lera discovered that her neuropathy was slowly growing resistant to treatment. The old fears returned, every ache and pain analysed and scrutinized as she pushed herself even harder to peak performance.

She constantly tweaks and modifies her formula to stave off twinges and numbness that she imagines might be the onset of decline. She pushes herself to the point of throwing up after workouts with IQ and Valkyrie, though only Valkyrie understood that punishing limit of physical fitness. Lera is unable to distinguish between the disease and normal fatigue and is driven by he? fears and made excellent by them in the same maddening moment. She is not young anymore, though, but more desperate than ever to hold on to her life. She is trying to find anew treatment while keeping it a secret, but Doc knows and is closely monitoring her condition in case it begins to affect her performance. She has not shared this with anyone else, not Kapkan who is her no-nonsense mentor, and not Tachanka with whom she drinks and flirts.

Notes

Lera has also recently taken to creating a wall of letters and photos in her workspace, a reminder that her treatments are more than just about helping herself. But she's still afraid that the neuropathy might get ahead of her.

These nanites give her team a short boost in HP, they help allies out of DBNO, and they steady the team’s aim. She’s the only one capable of tailoring the nanites to specific operators.

Gadget Tips

1 Sledge Hammer can destroy unreinforced walls, unreinforced hatches , destructible floors and barricades. With one hit you can open all these surfaces, As a Sledge you can easily destroy open all these surface and enter objective or make quick rotation in rooms easily.
2 The Sledge Hammer can create new lines of sight by using it to create holes in walls or floors. The holes can be used to peek into the rooms below or adjacent and kill any Defenders present there. these holes are also great for throwing Frag grenades, Drones and other gadgets. These holes are great to destrony any gadgets present below the room like when Bandit batteries are placed on a wall or Mira Black mirrors placed on walls down below.
3 The Sledge Hammer can be used to create new entry and rotation holes for Attackers. If there is a roaming Defender nearby and you know where the Defender is, You ca quickly create holes in walls and move to the room and surprise kill them. The hammer is also great for quickly entering the objective, While other Attackers have to use doors and windows to get into the objective, Sledge can use his hammer to create new entrances in breakable walls and move into the room. But remember that when using the Hammer, It is very loud and most likely the Defender will detect you but you will have the element of surprise on them, Drone the Defenders in the room, Plan how you want to engage and create holes according to your plan and kill the Defenders in the room easily.
4 The Sledge Hammer can destroy almost all Defender gadgets with one hit. Some Defender gadgets like Maestro turret, Defender Bulletproof cameras cannot be destroyed by bullet fire, These devices can be easily destroyed by Sledge Hammer. So always use your Sledgehammer first to destroy these gadgets that are a big problem for you and your team mates. But be careful when doing so, Using the Sledgehammer when Defenders are nearby is very risky as it will take some time for the Sledgehammer to be unequipped after using during which you cannot use your weapon.
5 The usage of Sledge Hammer on anything will reduce its durability. Make sure not to waste the Sledgehammer on random surfaces, Use it wisely. Before using the hammer on any surface, Make sure to think why you want to use the hammer on the surface and what would be the purpose. Also do not create random holes in walls that will hinder your team mates and get them killed.
6 The Sledge Hammer contains 25 charges to break and destroy things. As and when you hit the hammer on surfaces, the hammer charges get depleted and after 25 times, You will no longer be able to use the hammer to destroy surfaces, It will be rendered useless and a viable utility for the Attackers is wasted. Remember that the Sledgehammer is a great utility for creating Barbed wires and some Defender gadgets and must be used will caution.
7 Destroying a wall with Sledge Hammer takes two charges while all others take one charge. Swinging the hammer without any contact does not count as a charge. But remember that the durability of the hammer will reduce with each time it hitting any surface. After losing the durability, It cannot be used to destroy surface anymore. It will become useless.
8 There is a slight delay when trying to unequip the Sledge Hammer, during which Sledge is vulnerable to gunfire and cannot defend himself. So you need to be careful when using the hammer, check your surroundings for any Defenders present nearby and use the hammer with caution. If a Defender catches you breaking stuff, It will hard for you to shoot back when using the hammer as your gun will not be equipped in your hands. You can try to quickly aim even when the hammer is equipped, but it will have some delay and in that very short period you can be killed easily by a skilled Defender with good aim.
9 The Sledge Hammer is also capable of killing enemies with one hit. It counts as two charges. Most time Defenders will be downed because they were wearing a Rook armor, In that situaion, you can use the hammer to finish them off. But be careful when doing this, Sometimes the downed Defender will bait you into trying to hit them with the hammer but they might have another Defender nearby, Check your area and only if you are safe, hammer the downed Defender. Hammering a downed Defender will irritate the Defender who was hammered, They might get very angry over you and try to find and kill you all other round and if they find you they might try to kill you in a similar humiliating manner. Be careful.
10 The Sledge Hammer can be used to destroy multiple Barbed Wire next to each other by hitting at them at their junction. This is very effective for clearing a bunch of Barbed wires placed close to each other at windows and doors. This utility of the hammer is very useful for Attackers, Always try to destroy any Barbed wires nearby to help your teammates. This will eliminate the risk of your teammate from being killed while trying to walk over the Barbed wire. Remember that you only have to hit those bunch of Barbed wires only once with the hammer to destroy them while your team mates have to try to hit them twice with their hand for destroying them.
11 You must know that some walls are made of double layers and some are made of single layers. When you are close the wall and use the Sledgehammer on it, it will destroy the double layer of the walls and create a hole, but if you are a bit away from the wall and hit the wall with the hammer, you will only destroy the single layer of wall and there wont be a hole created, You must again use the hammer to destroy the other layer of wall to create a complete hole to pass through. Just remember to be close to the wall if you plan to create a hole in the wall and pass through them for quick surprise attacks.
12 Sledge Hammer can be used to destroy Maestro Remote Turret with one hit. Maestro turret can be very irritating to you and your team mates, Also they are a great source of intel for Defenders, So you must try to destroy them as soon as possbile to prevent Defenders from knowing about your actions. Bullet fire cannot damage the Maestro turret but the Sledgehammer will destroy it with one hit.
13 The Sledge Hammer can be used to destroy Defender Bulletproof cameras with one hit.
14 Sledge can create chaos by destroying floors and walls and driving Defenders into sense of fear.
15 The Sledge Hammer cannot destroy reinforced walls and hatches.
16 The Sledge Hammer can destroy Castle Barricades with one hit.
17 Sledge can be useful in all maps but you must have good map knowledge to use him to his full potential.
18 The Sledge Hammer can destroy Frost Welcome Mats with one hit.
19 The Sledge Hammer can be used to destroy the Defender Bulletproof cameras.

Gadget Synergies

1 Sledge can create new line of sight for Glaz and Glaz can provide support for him from long range.
2 Sledge works well with Thermite, Buck and Hibana. They all combined can create havoc by destroying everything (walls, barricades, floors and hatches). They are the defenders nightmare.
3 Sledge works well with Jackal to track any enemies below the floor and create holes in floors to kill them from above.
4 Sledge can help Thatcher to help him throw EMPs at critical location by creating new lines of sight in floors or walls.
5 Sledge can help Ying to help her throw Candelas at critical location by creating new lines of sight in floors or walls.
6 Sledge works well with Buck ,Ash and Hibana to break the surrounding walls and floors.
7 Sledge can help Capitao fire arrows at critical location by creating new lines of sight in floors or walls.
8 Sledge can help Thermite to open the reinforced walls by preventing Bandit from tricking the wall. If Bandit is battery tricking the walls, Sledge can go to the above floor and break the floor to shoot at the Bandit below. Bandit will be intimidated when the floor breaks above and will be forced to not battery trick the wall.
9 Sledge Hammer can create holes in walls and floors for Twitch shock drone to enter. This is useful in places where Bandit is battery tricking and in places where Mira walls are deplloyed. Twitch drone can easily enter throught the hole made by Sledge and can destroy them.
10 Sledge Hammer can create new entrances for Montagne to move into. This is vey useful when the normal path has lot of traps which will affect Montagne movement.
11 Sledge Hammer can create holes in floors and can be used to throw stun grenades down below to stun the Defenders just before Fuze uses his cluster charges on the floor. This way the Defenders will not be aware of the Cluster charges because they will be deafened by Stun grenades and will be killed easily.
12 Sledge Hammer can create new entrances for Blitz to move into. This is vey useful when the normal path has lot of traps which will affect Montagne movement.
13 Sledge Hammer can create new holes in walls and floors for Blackbeard to look into the objective.
14 Sledge Hammer can be used to create holes in walls and floors for Zofia to shoot her Stun grenades into.
15 Nomad can be combined with Sledge, Buck, Zofia, Ash. Combined they can break any woodern floors and shoot the Air Jab at enemies below to knock them down and kill easily.
